Customer: King Edward Hotel Banff, Canada
Product Used: RTChannelmanager Pro | Since: June 2010

“RateTiger gives us a better overview of the market so we can gauge our position instantly. It is crazy how fast prices change; RTSuite helps us keep on track, allowing us to update rates when we need to. We are now pretty good at benchmarking against our competition. We don’t have a sales department, therefore our front desk staff uses it, and they find it very easy to use.”

- Torsten Merker, Owner

  • Increased sales by 10%
  • Identified booking productivity

Background
The King Edward Hotel in Banff, Alberta reopened in June 2009. The small independent hotel with just 21 rooms sought to make an immediate impact in a very tough local market. The hotel understands Europeans’ budget requirements and therefore wanted to focus on this market. However it has strong competition, with a local group owning close to 3,000 budget rooms. The King Edward Hotel immediately subscribed to a number of online sales channels using them as a way to market the incredibly well located property in the centre of town.

Opportunity
Being a small hotel they didn’t have a dedicated revenue management team to manipulate rates, everyone needed to take part to make updates. Further, Banff is a relatively small town with about 40 hotels; hence the team needed to leverage the property’s location to draw international traveler bookings. Therefore providing the right marketing information and being visible across the main European sales channels was essential. The hotel also formed good relations with Banff Tourist Information Centre, who help direct walk-ins to the property, often helping to achieve 100% occupancy during the summer season June – September.

Solution
RateTiger helps The King Edward Hotel to keep track of inventory and the multiple websites it uses to sell rooms. It is only a small property yet manages 10 channels that need to be updated regularly. The hotel updates rates and inventory on a daily basis using RTSuite and further checks rates for the next 10 days across all channels. Sometimes rates are changed twice a day.

Return on Investment
The King Edward Hotel now runs at average occupancy levels of 80% and thanks to RateTiger is able to see the levels of bookings coming from its sales channels to optimize their choice of sales partners.
